I was hesitant about that when designing this, but wanted the metal for customization of the shape, persevering through the cracking was worth it in the end. ;) I'm sorry you're having the same malaise, hoping the future will be brighter... I can appreciate concerns from a musician, as I have a few musician friends who had raised similar concerns at the time of creating this project. Since I'm not a professional musician, I know that my ear is not as adept at deciphering minute tonal differences, so I played the flute for them, in comparison with my own student flute. After hearing the compared playing, I have been told that there isn't much difference in tone between the two flutes. If you'd like to have a listen for yourself, I did post a blog with video of me playing the two. (if you do have a watch/lsiten please keep in mind my amateur, rusty flautist skills; as I haven't been a habitual player in nearly 30 years, and when I do play, it's once a year (at best) when I pull it out of the closet to see if I can still do it... ;) you'll find that video here: http://createmyworlddesigns.blogspot.com/2016/07/flute-video-voting-time.html)
To be honest, I really wasn't too concerned about how the tone would change, as I was simply wanting to take an old, battered student flute (the parts weren't even of the same make with a Gemeinhardt head and a Vinci body, so someone pieced this thing together) from ebay and make something beautiful from it. Regarding your specific concerns: Weight, when polymer is thin, it is not a very heavy material, so there is no real noticeable difference in weight feel (concerning your thoughts on arm fatigue). As for the sound quality, it was a beat up student flute, so to begin with, the sound wasn't as great as my silver french flute. None-the-less, the sound quality is quite similar to my own student flute, as I said above. I purposely tried to keep the polymer layer as thin as possible so that it would not have much effect over the feel of the entire piece. As for the embouchure hole dimensions, if I'm understanding that you mean the size and shape of the mouthpiece hole itself, it is the same as before the clay was added, since I took a razor blade to cut the clay to the same shape and dimension of the hole in the metal under the clay. As for the weight of keys, again I tried to make the decorative pieces as thin as possible, and I don't really notice a drastic difference that would inhibit a player. There is no tuning issue from maladjustment in height of keys, as all areas where the springs or corks needed to rest against the original metal part of the flute are cut away to the bare metal to allow for those springs to touch the original metal and result in zero issues with the springs or key response.
This was never meant as something to put into production, it was simply an experiment that I felt driven to try for personal satisfaction. I haven't picked up a piccolo to have a go with, but perhaps someday... ;)
Thanks again for your comments and for stopping by my blog. createmyworldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16461188369833065598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7304907653397729317.post-15076739709112618252017-12-26T20:14:18.825-08:002017-12-26T20:14:18.825-08:00It’s very pretty!

First, your sculpture looks exactly like Trump to me, all the way down to the tail feathers and it is in it's sad way, a very important piece. I have to add a comment to your story in that I would almost be willing to bet that if we could all be brave enough to admit, there is probably not one woman on earth who hasn't had some sort of unwanted sexual encounter. And I think its very brave of you for taking this project on instead of keeping silent. You were called very strongly to finish this project and it had to be one of the toughest things in the world to do. Just know that you aren't alone and that you called the shots as you see them and I say bravo to you.
It's a sad state of affairs in a country such as ours, that we almost had no choice in who we wanted to represent our country. It all came down to choosing the least of the evils and it was more of a close your eyes and hit a button and not any chance of being right type of thing and I find it embarrassing and shameful when I think of how we are taught to believe what a great country we live in and what freedoms we have. And how many lives have been lost fighting for that truth, only to be handed someone like dirty word Trump as our representative. Someone who promises to keep our country safe? I don't think any woman can feel truly safe with him in office. So many times these days it feels like we must be very careful and tip-toe around saying anything that isn't completely positive... or else. lol

Yes, in this world full of mass-production, folks who aren't artists often don't "get" what it is we do or what it takes to do it. You got the wonderful experience of creativity and a gorgeous centerpiece and necklace out of it. So I'd call that a win, bummer about the $1000, though.

Btw, I was at a bead show not too long ago, and a guy there had created an led necklace that will light up lampwork beads from the inside. His design is quite simple and elegant and might better suit your crescent moon necklace. www.anglerfishjewelry.com Happy creating!sandysewinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11510529475226821571noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7304907653397729317.post-58694275707134076852017-10-30T22:33:04.015-07:002017-10-30T22:33:04.015-07:00Hi aims, thanks for taking the time to read and co...Hi aims, thanks for taking the time to read and comment on this blog post! Your comments are very kind and so appreciated. The judges were representatives of the company that sponsored the generous prize... now that 2 weeks has passed since the event, I have softened a bit on the whole experience. Of course the judges were entitled to choose who they liked, though to some it may seem absurd that unique artistry lost over what one of my friends described as "something you'd see in a Martha Stewart magazine, and which anyone could do". But in hindsight, perhaps it's a good thing that a table that was constructed of store-bought items won over my hand-crafted table, in the sense that this wasn't meant to be a contest for artists, it was a community affair and anyone could potentially win. At least these are the thoughts that are running through my head now that I've had some time to lick my wounds. ;) Again, I do really appreciate your kind words, and appreciate the share too. I agree with you, this event was an amazing one, and I would certainly encourage other small towns to use it as a model for community engagement. createmyworldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16461188369833065598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7304907653397729317.post-46402417759646397712017-10-30T09:21:02.237-07:002017-10-30T09:21:02.237-07:00I am beyond stunned at your entire table!
